Stem and leaf plot

A Stem and leaf plot is a device for presenting quantitative data in a graphical format, similar to a histogram, to assist in visualizing the shape of a distribution.

Box plot

A graphical summary of numerical data sample through five statistics: median, lower quartile, upper quartile, and some indication of more extreme upper and lower values

histogram

A histogram is a bar chart graphical display of numerical data. The area of each bar represents frequency distribution.

Parallel coordinate graph

In a parallel coordinates graph, each variable corresponds to a axis.

Triangular plot

A triangular plot is a barycentric plot on three variables which sum to a constant. It graphically depicts the ratios of the three variables as positions in an equilateral triangle.

Windrose

A diagram indicating compass directions in terms of eight principal winds.

Climograph

A climograph is a graph which demonstrates the precipitation and temperature for an area.

Population profile

A population profile is a chart showing the number of people as a function of their ages.

Scatterplot

A two dimensional graph representing a set of bi-variate data. For each element being graphed, there are two separate pieces of data.

Index value plot

An index member which is the ratio of the value of all items in a given period to the value of all items in the base period.

Lorenz curve

A Lorenz curve is a graph showing the proportion of the distribution assumed by the bottom y% of the values. The curve represents the cumulative distribution function of the empirical probability distribution of wealth.

Bilateral graph

Bilateral graphs are used to display data when there are both positive and negative values of choices.

Nominal area choropleth map

A nominal area choropleth map is a choropleth map that is used to display nominal data.

Unstandardized choropleth maps

Unstandardized choropleth maps are maps that are unordered. One category is not higher or lower than the other.

Standardized choropleth maps

A standardized choropleth map is a map that shows the distribution of a data, usually with various colors; color changes are correlated to the density per unit area of the data.

Univariate choropleth maps

A univariate choropleth map displays a single data set.

Bivariate choropleth maps

Bivariate mapping is an important technique in cartography, that employs two variables on a map by combining two different sets of graph symbols or colors.

Unclassed choropleth maps

Unclassed choropleth maps show patterns by using different colours or different shading classed in some way.

Classed choropleth maps

A classed choropleth map is a map that represents data by the coloring or shading of data.

Range graded proportional circle

A range graded proportional circle is a proportional circle map that depicts the circles in relation to ranges of data.

Continuously variable proportional circle map

A continuously variable proportional circle map is a proportional circle map which use circles as point data on a map. The circles are proportional to the the data measured.

DOQQ

Digital Orthophoto Quarter-Quadrangles. An aerial map divided into quarter rectangles.

DEM

A digital elevation model. A map representing the elevation of the land surface.

DRG

Digital Raster Graphic. An image (topographic map) of a survey of land. An image of a USGS topographic map that has been scanned and digitized for viewing electronically.

DLG

A Digital Line Graph. A format used by the U. S. Geological Survey to prepare a digital vector version of a topographic map.

Isopleths

A line drawn on a map through all points of equal value of some measurable quantity.

Isopach

A map illustrating variation of thickness within a tabular unit.

Isohyets

A line on a map connecting points having the same amount of rainfall in a given period.

isotachs

A line in a map connecting points with equal wind speed.

isobar

Isobars are lines drawn on a map joining places of equal average atmospheric pressure reduced to sea level for a limited period of time.

LIDAR

Light Detection And Ranging. LIDAR is an optical remote sensing technology that measures properties of scattered light to find range and other information of a distant target.

Doppler radar

A Doppler radar is a radar that makes use of the doppler effect to produce velocity data about objects at a distance. A Doppler radar beams a microwave towards the target and listens for its reflection, then analyzes how the frequency of the returned signal has been changed by the object's motion.

Black & white aerial photo

Black and white aerial photos give the user a bird's eye view, and use black and white infrared film.

Infrared aerial photo

Photography taken from the air where an infrared optical system projects an image directly on infrared film involving point-to-point variations in temperature of an area.

Cartographic animations

A cartographic animation is a map that has moving aspects which show what may happen under certain circumstances.

Statistical maps

http://personalpages.manchester.ac.uk/staff/m.dodge/cybergeography/atlas/census.html
A special type of map in which the variation in quantity of a factor such as rainfall, population, or crops in a geographic area is indicated

cartogram

A cartogram is a map in which some thematic mapping variable is substituted for land area or distance.

Flow maps

A flow map is a graphical representation of a process. Each step in the process is represented by a different symbol and contains a short description of the process step. The flow chart symbols are linked together with arrows showing the process flow direction.

Isoline maps

Isoline maps are maps with continuous lines joining points of the same value.

Topographic Map

A topographic map is a type of map characterized by large-scale detail and quantitative representation of relief, usually using contour lines in modern mapping, but historically using a variety of methods. Traditional definitions require a topographic map to show both natural and man-made features.
